TRN believes that successful social innovations can be deliberately designed and cascaded. We are only interested in creating innovation that grows, taking life of its own and creating momentum rather staying as innovative pilot projects.

We've fused three key disciplines in developing our own approach to social innovation cascade, arbitragerial economics, innovation design and social network science. Our approach is as follows:

Arbitrage spotting

Basically it is trends spotting with obsessive focus on large-scale bridging opportunities. We have our radar on various markets, sectors and knowledge frontiers in order to find specific gap where existing practices in the market have significant social improvement / revolution potential due to the advancement in technologies, knowledge or other changes in various forces affecting that particular market. That spot is what we call 'social arbitrage opportunity'. Once we found the spot, we narrow our frame to bench-mark best practices on various sectors that could apply to the spot against each other in order to find real ingenuity gap exists for that particular spot.

Total immersion

Once arbitrage opportunity is spot and bench-mark against all relevant best practices. We begin the process of total immersion or to dive deep into real world experiences of people in the target market in order to understand how they really behave, how they interact with problem, what are their perceptions, what forces cause the problem in the first place, how things could be different and so and so forth. The goal of total immersion is to arrive at powerful insights into the nature of the problem we're trying to solve. The insights can emerge from various perspectives whether economic, anthropological, human factors, systems thinking, engineering, psychological and others.

Rapid-Prototyping

Once we arrived at the powerful insights, various problem-solving ideas are being brain-storm in order to creating working prototypes of the solution. Prototyping both at the conceptual and concrete levels are crucial as it allows the team as well as partners/clients to quickly arrive at common understanding without waiting for perfection. The prototypes are rapidly-improve upon based on real-world feedbacks until they are good enough for post-beta implementation.

Successful prototype is simply a first step. Innovation only cascades or diffuses through robust social networks. In fact, the world never lack innovative ideas but rather cascaded innovation.
